Here at Thompson&Pooch I know that our dogs are worth more than the bog standard day care normally offered in SW London. You know the ones - where they spend half the day inside, going to the same park, for the same 1 hour run around, OR (if you're really pushing the boat out) going to the same centre every day, to play in the same field.
So to keep our dogs happy and well stimulated, I decided to mix it up!
The doggos with me all day are lucky enough to join me, and a variety of their friends, out on two long fun filled adventures every day in and around the areas of Lambeth, Merton, Sutton, Bromley, Epsom and Ewell, Elmbridge and more!
Both walks take place at different parks and commons, the added variety of different smells and scenes gives them even more added mental stimulation everyday as it's not what they're used to! Walking at different parks and commons also promotes better behaviour, as they're more inclined to stick closer to you in unfamiliar environments.
I also like to set up treasure hunts (where they have to find the hidden treats), take them swimming (if the weather permits) and help you, by working on their basic training (recall, sit, stay etc) and their party tricks (spin, high-5 etc). On top of this I also take a variety of toys out on our adventures (balls, tugs toys etc.) for the dogs to play with, either as a group or 1-on-1. Although I like our days to be fun filled, it isn't constantly fast paced. I do also take time out to have a break with them, I use this time to work on building our bond by doing some training, or just simply having a cuddle! Between walks dogs can have a well earned rest to absorb the mornings information, have some lunch (if required) and some fresh water.
On top of this we sometimes go a little further afield for an adventure day to Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Natural Trust Countryside and Surrey Wildlife Trust reserves plus more for one long 3 - 4 hour trail walk!
Puppies are welcome to join!
Although I'd recommend pups starting out with just one walk, they are also welcome to join us for day care. It's a great way for them to learn how to socialise and play nicely with other dogs, as well as getting used to coexisting around other wildlife, without getting too carried away (they're closely monitored!). I also take out a puppy carrier (see below) with me, so that when it's time for their little joints to have a rest, they can do so safely whilst also still being mentally stimulated with new sights, smells and sounds!
Dogs are cleaned, groomed and checked over for ticks/grass seeds as best I can after each walk. I carry a pressure washer in my van, so dogs can be rinsed down (whether that be mud, or poo related!), they will also be brushed down and towel dried as much as possible before being returned home.
